Gigantic Nuclear-Hardened Military Compound and PRC's Warships 150 Nautical Miles from Sydney

While most analysts in the West are focusing on the feud between Trump and Zelenskyy and the division in the transatlantic relationship between Europe and the US, a cornerstone of global peace and stability for 80 years, China is preparing for war.

For the first time, Chinese warships have sailed within 150 nautical miles of Sydney, signaling a significant shift in Beijing's power projection further South and beyond the 2nd island chain.

The frigate and cruiser were detected off Australia's northeast coast and led the Australian Navy to shadow the vessels closely. This marks the furthest south China's navy has ventured down Australia’s eastern seaboard.

That is a deliberate signal from the PRC: To expand its reach beyond the first and second island chains in the Pacific, testing its ability to project military power further into the Pacific. This latest development is another puzzle piece in the overall growing tensions between the Australian and Chinese Navy.

At the same time, China is building a massive wartime military command center southwest of Beijing, covering approximately 1,500 acres (607 hectares). The facility is expected to be at least ten times larger than the U.S. Pentagon, making it the world's largest military command center.

Satellite imagery reveals deep excavations, likely for large, hardened bunkers designed to protect high-ranking military officials and political leaders during conflicts, including nuclear scenarios.

Construction began in mid-2024 and the costs are projected to be in the tens of billions USD. With conservative estimates, it could accommodate between 50,000 to 100,000 personnel during normal operations. In comparison: 26,000 military and civilian employees, and about 3,000 non-defense support personnel work in the Pentagon.

The project aligns with China's broader military modernization efforts, aiming to enhance the PLA´s readiness and to centralize command across land, air, sea, space, cyber, and electronic warfare domains. This strategic integration could significantly enhance China's military efficiency and speed for complex operations - including preparing for potential conflicts like a Taiwan invasion.

One is getting more and more openly visible: China is preparing for war - one way or the other. The division in the transatlantic partnership, Trump reaching out to Putin, defending nationalist pro-Putin parties in Europe plays into the CCP's hands.
